Michael Woods

Longest serving active member of this club - 28 years. 
  • Played in foundation year (1978) of the original Salisbury Para Hills Club with Ian Craig, Barry Verhulst and Howard Hill.

  • Invovled in bottle drives, telephone book deliveries & wood harvesting as fundraising to get the Club started

  • Involved in all aspects of committee and coaching for first 15 years of Club’s existence

  • Key person in establishing the first junior team

  • Instrumental with Ian Craig in moving to Angle Park to continue the changes and development of this Club

  • First player ever from this Club to make an all Australian junior side.

  • In 1982 at the Open Men’s National Championships Ian Craig and Michael became the Club's 1st players to win a medal(bronze) whilst representing SA

  • Won the Club and State best and fairest in all grades from junior to A grade

  • Selected in many state junior and senior teams and junior national teams

  • Coached junior men’s team in early days along with Ian Craig

  • Coached A Women’s team

  • Coached A Men’s team for a number of years

  • Unofficial coach of B men’s team for majority of last 10 years

  • SA Water Polo President for 1 year and on SAWPI committee.

  • State schoolboys, junior and senior men and jets player (toward end A grade)

  • Has won more A and B grade Club best and fairest awards than any player

  • Has won more SA Association Best and Fairest awards than any other player, including awards in junior, A grade and B grade men.

  • Possibly the oldest player (at 44 years of age) to win Club and Association Best and Fairest and top goal scorer (in 2005-06).


Michael Woods has always given 100 per cent in games. He is regarded as one of the best and consistently strong players of our Club. In the early days he was constantly approached to play for our competitors. He has always acted as a leader whose loyalty and commitment to this Club over the years could not be questioned.
